Nearly 25,000 Left Without Electricity in South-East Queensland and Victoria Following Severe Weather Systems

Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in south-east Queensland found themselves without power on the start of the week after severe thunderstorms impacted the area, generating powerful gusts reaching 109 kilometers per hour.

Substantial Hailstones and Broad Destruction

Residents reported giant hailstones as large as seven centimeters in certain regions. Weather authorities announced that various areas across Queensland had been hit with large hailstones.

Response teams were focused on reestablishing power throughout the damaged zones, with dozens of response units working to address the numerous electricity disruptions.

Southern State's Weather Woes

At the same time, around 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after Melbourne saw its heaviest rainfall in 18 months.

Rescue organizations responded to nearly 600 requests for assistance across the area, mostly for structural issues but also for fallen timber and inundation.

• Hoppers Crossing area - various emergency calls
• Wyndham area - over 175 emergency requests

At one point on the previous day, over twenty-eight thousand electricity consumers in the state were lacking electricity.

Meteorological Predictions

Moist weather were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this next several days as a low-pressure trough continued to attract humidity against the shoreline.

Tomorrow was forecast to be the heaviest precipitation period, with persistent severe weather risk predicted across various areas of both regions.

Medical Alert

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, especially given the current weather patterns.
